For the first time ever, San Jose Youth Shakespeare will be producing TWO plays this summer, one of which was written not only in this century but this decade!
Stay tuned for details about The Comedy of Errors and Red Velvet, coming to The Historic Hoover Theatre August 9-14.
Red Velvetis the story of the first production of Othello in London with a black actor in the leading role. Premiered 2012 and set in 1833, the same year that Britain’s Slavery Abolition Act was passed, Red Velvet dramatizes a gripping story with implications for today. Our first production of a modern play, San Jose Youth Shakespeare’s Red Velvet features Nathan Sandoval as Ira Aldridge, supported by a cast of some of the most experienced members and alumni of our company. Details of show dates and times for both Red Velvet and The Comedy of Errors coming soon!
The Much Ado About Nothing cast has been announced – it’s going to be great! Music, a battle of wits and romance. 25 experienced actors ages 8-21, including several talented returning veterans you haven’t seen in a while. Performances the first week of August at the Historic Hoover Theatre:
